Research Project Subject
The topic I chose to do my research on was substance abuse. I am looking for both general background information as well as specific information. I am looking for both because I defined my research project as substance sbuse and the effects it has on the children of the parents. The ways I took to find my book through the St.Cloud library was first to go the SCSU website and then click on the library link. From there I went straight to the advance search so I could find research on substance abusers and family affects. Then on I found a book that fit my topic well. I recored the call number so I would be able to find it in the correct section. I was successful on my first try because I know what I was looking for and I knew how to use key words to find what I was looking for. Through OPAC there was no EBooks on my topic. I am not interested in looking for an EBook because I prefer to either have the book in front of me and then I would not want to print off many many pages. I do have a phone that would allow me to read EBook but I have never used it and probably never will. When I went through the Great River Regional Library I was unable to find any books on substance abusers. I thought it was more difficult going through the GRRL verses the Miller Center Library OPAC. I thought that because the Miller Library is more focused towards research while the GRRL is guided toward recreational reading.

While I was going through the GRRL I went to Library catalog and just did a general search and came up with nothing. While taking a second look at it I went to the digital library and was able to find an ebook on my topic. Yet my opinion still stands that I would prefer to still have a paper copy in front of me rather than on a computer or my phone.
ReplyDeleteHi Beth,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your post about your experience searching for books in the Miller Center Library and GRRL OPACs.
How come you could not find any books in the Great River Regional Library on substance abusers? What keywords did you use for your search?
I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Professor Wexelbaum
I think the reason I couldn't find anything right away at the Great River Regional Library was because I went right to an advance search when it wasn't needed right away. I did go back and try again and found more results.
