I like that the scholarly article has more information and facts behind it, while the magazine can give more opinions. There is also more information found in the scholarly article and less in the magazine. But that doesn't mean the magazine has bad information. In fact it has good information from a credible magazine. The magazine has information that exactly what my topic is narrowed down to so it will be a good resource to use in my research. They both give good and correct information. The reading style is the same since the magazine isn't a daily magazine it directed toward a field of study. It is more a research magazine that gives accurate information. Overall I thought both of the sources are useful and will be something I will use in my paper. In this aspect I thought they were both equally good and one wasn't better than the other.
Hi Beth,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your post on scholarly journal and popular magazine articles.
It is good to hear that you found two worthwhile sources for your semester research project!
Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Weekly is a university digest, as opposed to a popular magazine:
http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/10.1002/%28ISSN%291556-7591
Remember that a popular magazine is written for everyone, and marketed as such...the Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Weekly publication is geared toward people in a particular profession/field of study.
It is OK to Google Search a publication title to find out what type of publication it is!
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Professor Wexelbaum
