If I had to think about what intellectual property was I would say that is knowledge someone has put out into the world by either writing a book, music, paper or have done research on a topic.
The experts definition of intellectual refers to the creations of the mind. Like inventions, literary, artistic works, and symbols. Intellectual property is treated as 'real' property. For example if someone uses a quote in a paper and doesn't cite the source they are not giving credit to the person who actually did the work. I think that it relates intellectual property because it changes when it is shared because people might put their own spin onto music, or switch a quote around to make it their own.
Hi Beth,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your post on intellectual property.
You mentioned that if someone does not cite the source of a quote, they are not giving credit to the person who did the work. That's right!
Could you tell me where the "expert's definition" on copyright came from?
I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Professor Wexelbaum
